Sunnyvale Opens Space-Themed All-Inclusive Playground at Lakewood Park

SUNNYVALE, Santa Clara County — Families have a new place to play at Lakewood Park following the city’s July 29, 2026 opening celebration for a space-themed all-inclusive playground.

According to the city’s official announcement, the renovated play area was designed for children of different abilities and supports physical, sensory and social development. It includes a main playground, a tot lot and exercise equipment. The park is located at 834 Lakechime Drive, and the new playground is in the southeast corner.

What remains under renovation?

Sunnyvale’s recreation materials say the broader Lakewood Park improvement program extends beyond the playground. Other parts of the park may remain affected while renovation work continues, so visitors should follow posted barriers and signs rather than assuming all facilities are accessible.

Visiting responsibly

Street parking is available along Lakechime and Silverlake drives, according to the city announcement. Families can consult Sunnyvale’s Parks and Recreation updates for the current condition of sports courts, paths and additional improvements.
